Significance of Angaraki Chaturthi
In Sanskrit, 'Angaraki' means 'a red burnt coal'. Ancient Vedic texts like Ganesh Purana and Smriti Kaustubha mention the importance of Angaraki Chaturthi. This day is considered a day of liberation, and worshipping Lord Ganesha on this day fulfills the sincere desires of devotees. Observing Ganesha's fast grants freedom from all problems and leads to a content life.
Angaraki Chaturthi occurs once every six months. On this special day, Lord Ganesha, the supreme deity of wisdom, is worshipped to receive eternal blessings of prosperity and happiness.
Rituals of Angaraki Chaturthi Vrat (Fasting)
- Begin the day with an early morning bath.
- Perform special puja and offer Modak to Lord Ganesha.
- Decorate the idol or picture of Ganesha with flowers and perform Aarti (lamp offering).
- Observe a complete fast from sunrise till moonrise, then break the fast after moon sighting.
- Offer sandalwood paste, rice, and flowers to the Moon God during the puja.
- Some people observe partial fasting by consuming fruits, milk, or sabudana khichdi.
- Recite Vedic scriptures such as 'Ganapati Atharvashirsha' and 'Sankat Nashan Ganapati Stotra'.
