Transliteration: Shri Guru mhananti jananisi | Amhan aisa niropa desi | Anitya sharira tun janasi | Kaya bharanvasa jivitvacha || 1 ||
Meaning: Shri Guru (Narahari) said to his mother, "You ask me not to leave, but you know this body is transient. What guarantee is there for life?"

Meaning: (Shloka) Bodies are temporary and wealth is not eternal. Death is always close at hand; therefore, one’s duty is to accumulate righteous deeds (Dharma).

Meaning: (Commentary) If a human were immortal, your advice would be wise. But in a world where the body and wealth are fleeting, whom can one trust for the future?

Transliteration: Deha mhanije kshanabhangura | Nahin rahile kavana sthira | Jamvavari drudha asela sharira | Punyamarge rahataven || 4 ||
Meaning: The body is momentary; no one remains forever. As long as the body is strong, one should walk the path of merit (Punya).

Meaning: Only he who has conquered death can consider the body eternal. To such a person, your advice to "perform Dharma later" would be true.

Meaning: Life shortens with every passing moment, day and night. For this reason, one must practice Dharma in one’s youth.

Meaning: Just as the Sun’s chariot travels 22,000 leagues in a single moment, so does human life waste away rapidly.

Meaning: When rain falls on a tree, a drop hangs on the tip of a leaf only for a moment. It is unstable and soon falls to the ground.

Meaning: Similarly, the body is not permanent; death is certain. Whether in youth or old age, know that this physical frame will eventually perish.

Meaning: Therefore, one should not trust this body. Since death is a constant companion, one must perform Dharma immediately.

Meaning: As rivers carry water to the sea and never return to their source, so too, the life that has passed never returns.

Meaning: Knowing that days and nights are slipping away, those who still do not perform virtuous deeds are like animals.

Meaning: A day without a virtuous deed is a wasted day. Lord Yama has no mercy, so perform meritorious deeds instantly.

Meaning: Those who believe that children, spouse, wealth, cattle, life, and the body are permanent are like animals.

Meaning: Just as a crocodile swallows a human, old age gradually consumes this body.

Meaning: Therefore, wise people should perform merit in their youth. O Mother, why do you stop me? Is this truly wise?

Meaning: Only a friend of Yama or one who is immortal can afford to be lazy and delay righteous deeds.

Meaning: Worldly life is like a dream. Like a jasmine flower that soon dries up, so is this body.

Meaning: Hearing her son's words, the mother bowed to him and said, "Lord, you have shared great wisdom, but please hear my plea."

Meaning: "You promised that I would have four more sons. O divine son, my mind cannot fully believe this yet."

Meaning: "Until at least one son is born, please stay with us. I will not give you leave until then," she pleaded.

Meaning: Hearing his mother’s words, Shri Guru smiled and said, "My words are true, and I shall fulfill your wish."

Meaning: Having made this agreement, Shri Guru stayed with great love. He began teaching the Vedas to many disciples.

Meaning: The townsfolk marveled, saying, "A wonder has occurred! Look, a seven-year-old child is teaching all four Vedas."

Meaning: Students more learned than scholars came to study the three Vedas. Even those who called themselves masters of the six Shastras came to learn from him.

Transliteration: Yenepari taya gharin | Rahile Guru pritikari | Mata jhali garodari | Mahananda karitase || 35 ||
Meaning: Thus, the Master stayed at home with love. Soon, the mother became pregnant again, much to her joy.

Meaning: They worshipped their son daily as their family deity. Their happiness was like someone who had found a hidden treasure.

Meaning: After nine months, she gave birth to beautiful twin sons.
Ovi 38 Original: पुत्र झाले उल्हास थोर । मातापित्या संतोष फार । आशीर्वचन असे गुरू । असत्य केवीं होईल ॥३८॥
Transliteration: Putra jhale ullasa thora | Matapitya santosha phara | Ashirvachana ase Guru | Asatya kevin hoila || 38 ||
Meaning: The parents were overjoyed at the birth of the twins. How could the Master’s blessing ever be false?
Ovi 39 Original: याकारणें गुरुवचन । सत्य मानावें विद्वज्जनें । जैसें असेल अंतःकरण । तैसें होईल परियेसा ॥३९॥
Transliteration: Yakaranen guruvachana | Satya manave vidvajjanen | Jaise asela antahkarana | Taise hoila pariyesa || 39 ||
Meaning: Therefore, the wise should trust the Guru’s words. As is one’s faith, so is the outcome.

Meaning: When the twins were one year and three months old, Shri Guru approached his mother while she was playing with them.

Transliteration: Janani aika majhe vachana | Jhali tujhi manakamana | Doghe putranidhana | Purnayushi aheti jana || 41 ||
Meaning: "Mother, listen to me. Your heart's desire is fulfilled. These two sons are like divine treasures and will live long lives."
Ovi 42 Original: आणखी होतील दोघे कुमारक । त्यानंतर कन्या एक । असाल नांदत अत्यंत सुख । वासना पुरतील तुझी जाणा ॥४२॥
Transliteration: Anikhi hotila doghe kumaraka | Tyanantara kanya eka | Asala nandata atyanta sukha | Vasana puratila tujhi jana || 42 ||
Meaning: "You will have two more sons and then a daughter. You will live in great happiness, and all your wishes will be fulfilled."
Ovi 43 Original: आतां आमुतें निरोपावें । जाऊं आम्ही स्वभावें । संतोषरुपी तुम्हीं व्हावें । म्हणोनि निरोप घेती तये वेळीं ॥४३॥
Transliteration: Atan amuten niropaven | Jaun amhi svabhave | Santoshrupi tumhin vhave | Mhanoni niropa gheti tayevali || 43 ||
Meaning: "Now, please give me leave to go. I must follow my nature. Be satisfied," he said, taking his leave.
Ovi 44 Original: संतोषोनि मातापिता । चरणांवरी ठेविती माथा । स्वामी आमुच्या कुळदेवता । अशक्य आम्ही बोलावया ॥४४॥
Transliteration: Santoshoni matapita | Charanavari theviti matha | Swami amuchya kuladaivata | Ashakya amhi bolavaya || 44 ||
Meaning: The parents were content and bowed at his feet. "O Lord, you are our family deity; we find it impossible to say anything."
Ovi 45 Original: न कळे आम्हां स्वरुपज्ञान । तुझें स्वरुप नकळे कवणा । मायामोहें वेष्टोन कामना । नेणोंचि महिमान तुझें ॥४५॥
Transliteration: Na kale amhan svarupajnana | Tujhe svarupa nakale kavana | Mayamohen veshton kamana | Nenonchi mahimana tujhe || 45 ||
Meaning: "We do not understand the true nature of your divinity. Your form is unknown to all. Entrapped in the illusion of worldly desires, we failed to recognize your true greatness."

Transliteration: Mayaprapanchen veshtoni | Tuten jari suta mhanoni | Eke samayin nishtura bolon vachani | Kshama karane svamiya || 46 ||
Meaning: "Engrossed in this illusory world, we looked upon you only as our son. If we have ever spoken harsh words to you, O Lord, please forgive us."

Transliteration: Sahabhojana-shayanasanin | Tuten ganjon bhukejoni | Kade na ghenchi ubagoni | Kshama karin ga devaraya || 47 ||
Meaning: "While eating, sleeping, or sitting together, we might have troubled you when you were hungry or neglected to carry you out of weariness. O King of Gods, forgive us."

Meaning: "O child, you have incarnated as the savior of our lineage. O Lord, the merit of my Pradosha worship has finally borne fruit through you."

Meaning: "O Merciful Lord, what will be our ultimate fate? O Giver, please release us from the painful cycle of birth and death."
Ovi 50 Original: सगरांवरी जैसी गंगा । तैसा तुवां आलासि चांगा । पावन केलेंसि माझे अंगा । उभयकुळें बेचाळीस ॥५०॥
Transliteration: Sagaranvari jaishi Ganga | Taisa tuvan alasi changa | Pavana kelensi majhe anga | Ubhayakulen bechalis || 50 ||
Meaning: "Just as the Ganga descended for King Sagara’s clan, you have graced us with your presence. You have purified me and forty-two generations of our paternal and maternal lineages."

Meaning: In this manner, Shri Guru stayed there for some time and performed penance through the eight-fold path of Yoga (Ashtanga Yoga).

Meaning: They said, "Look at this young boy performing such intense penance! What profound detachment (Vairagya) he possesses; he is completely untouched by the world."
Ovi 81 Original: शरीरस्वार्थ नाहीं यासी । योग्य होय हा संन्यासीं । स्नान करितो त्रिकाळेसीं । मणिकर्णिका तीर्थांत ॥८१॥

Meaning: He told the other ascetics, "Do not call him a mere human or a simple boy. He is an incarnation, a great ascetic who deserves the worship of the whole world."

Meaning: The path flourished for a long time, but as the Kali Yuga grows stronger, it is being lost and criticized again.
Ovi 98 Original: आश्रमाचा उद्धार । सकळ जनां उपकार । करावा कृपासागर । म्हणती सकळ मुनिजन ॥९८॥
Transliteration: Ashramacha uddhara | Sakala janan upakara | Karava krupasagara | Mhanati sakala munijana || 98 ||
Meaning: "O Ocean of Mercy, please uplift this holy order and bless all humanity," the sages pleaded.
