Introduction
The 38th Chapter of the Shri Guru Charitra is a beautiful testament to the power of pure devotion and the boundless grace of the Master. While the previous chapter focused on the discipline of 'Achara Dharma', this chapter brings to life the divine phenomenon of 'Annapurnatva'—the spiritual power to provide infinite sustenance.
Through the story of Bhaskar, a poor Brahmin with a heart full of faith but a bag empty of resources, Shri Guru Narasimha Saraswati demonstrates that He cares not for the quantity of our offerings, but for the sincerity of our intent. This chapter is a source of great hope for anyone struggling with scarcity, proving that when the Divine takes charge, even a handful of grain can satisfy thousands.

Ovi 1:- नामधारक विनवी सिद्धासी । पुढें चरित्र जाहलें कैसी । विस्तारावें कृपेंसीं । म्हणोनि चरणीं लागला ॥१॥
Transliteration: namadharaka vinavi siddhasi | pudhe charitra jahale kaisi | vistarave krupensi | mhanoni charani lagala || 1 ||
English Meaning: Namadharaka requested Siddha Muni, "What happened next in the life story of Shri Guru? Please explain it to me with your grace." Saying this, he bowed at his feet.
Marathi Meaning: नामधारकाने सिद्धांना विनंती केली की, यापुढे काय चरित्र घडले ते मला विस्ताराने सांगावे, असे म्हणून तो त्यांच्या चरणी लागला.

English Meaning: "I am parched with thirst for these stories; please give me a sip of this nectar. Tell me the life of Shri Guru and calm my mind quickly."

Transliteration: siddha mhane namadharakasi | tu je je maja pusasi | santosho hoto amhansi | gurucharitra athavita || 3 ||
English Meaning: Siddha Muni said to Namadharaka, "Whatever you ask me gives me great joy, as it allows me to remember the life of Shri Guru."
Marathi Meaning: सिद्ध म्हणाले, "तू जे जे विचारतोस, त्याने मलाही आनंद होतो, कारण त्या निमित्ताने मला गुरुचरित्र आठवते."
Ovi 4:- तुजकरितां आम्हांसी । लाभ जोडे परियेसीं । आठवली कथा सुरसी । विचित्र एक झालें असे ॥४॥
Transliteration: tujakarita amhansi | labha jode pariyesi | athavali katha surasi | vichitra eka jhale ase || 4 ||
English Meaning: "Because of you, I also gain this merit. I have remembered a very sweet and marvelous story that once took place."

Ovi 5:- मागें कथन सांगितलें । जें भक्तीं द्रव्य आणिलें । स्वामीं अंगीकार नाहीं केलें । समाराधना करावी म्हणोनि ॥५॥
Transliteration: mage kathana sangitale | je bhakti dravya aprile | swami angikara nahi kele | samaraadhana karavi mhanoni || 5 ||
English Meaning: I mentioned earlier that the money brought by the devotees was not accepted by the Master for himself, but was given to perform community feasts (Samaradhana).
Marathi Meaning: मागील अध्यायात सांगितले होते की, भक्तांनी जे द्रव्य (पैसे) आणले होते, ते श्रीगुरूंनी स्वतःसाठी घेतले नाहीत, तर समाराधना (ब्राह्मण भोजन) करण्यासाठी दिले.

Transliteration: nitya samaraadhana dekha | karita hote bhakta aneka | kadhi nahi aranuka | nahi aisa divasa nahi || 6 ||

Transliteration: aise hota eke divashi | durbala dwija ala pariyesi | ase kashyapa-gotrensi | nama taya 'bhaskara' || 7 ||
English Meaning: One day, a poor Brahmin of the Kashyapa lineage named 'Bhaskar' arrived there.

Ovi 8:- अति सुक्षीण ब्राह्मण । आला आपण दर्शना म्हणोन । साष्टांगीं नमस्कारुन । भक्तिपूर्वक विनविलें ॥८॥
Transliteration: ati sukshina brahmana | ala apana darshana mhanona | sashtangi namaskaruna | bhaktipurvaka vinavile || 8 ||
English Meaning: The Brahmin was very weak and emaciated. He came for a vision (Darshan) and requested with a prostrated bow and great devotion.
Marathi Meaning: तो ब्राह्मण अतिशय गरीब आणि कृश (दुबळा) होता. त्याने श्रीगुरूंचे दर्शन घेऊन भक्तीने त्यांना नमस्कार केला.
Ovi 9:- ते दिवसीं भक्तजन । करीत होते आराधन । उठवितात तया ब्राह्मणा । भोजन करीं म्हणोनियां ॥९॥
Transliteration: te divasi bhaktajana | karita hote aradhana | uthavitata taya brahmana | bhojana kari mhanoniya || 9 ||
English Meaning: On that day, other devotees were organizing a feast. They asked the Brahmin to get up and join them for the meal.

Transliteration: sankalpa karoni to brahmana | shrigurusi bhiksha karavina apana | save sopaskara gheuna | ala hota pariyesa || 10 ||
English Meaning: But the Brahmin had made a resolve that he would offer alms (a meal) to Shri Guru himself. He had brought the necessary ingredients with him.
Marathi Meaning: पण भास्करने मनात संकल्प केला होता की, मी स्वतः श्रीगुरूंना भिक्षा (जेवण) घालीन. त्यासाठी लागणारे साहित्य तो सोबत घेऊनच आला होता.

Transliteration: trivargachya purate dekha | save ase tandula-kanika | varakada padartha tya purtika | sopaskara ase tyapashi || 11 ||
English Meaning: He had only enough rice, flour, and other items to feed three people.
Marathi Meaning: त्याच्याकडे केवळ तीन माणसांना पुरेल इतकेच पीठ, तांदूळ आणि इतर थोडे साहित्य होते.
Ovi 12:- सर्व असे वस्त्रीं बांधिलें । नेऊनि मठांत ठेविलें । भक्तें आणिक त्यासी बोलाविलें । गेला तो ब्राह्मण भोजनासी ॥१२॥
Transliteration: sarva ase vastri bandhile | neuni mathata thevile | bhakte anika tyasi bolavile | gela to brahmana bhojanasi || 12 ||
English Meaning: He tied everything in a cloth and kept it in the monastery (Math). When other devotees invited him again, he went to eat with them.

Transliteration: bhojana karita jhali nishi | apana ala mathasi | gathodi thevi apule ushi | maga nidra kari dekha || 13 ||
English Meaning: By the time he finished his meal, it was night. He returned to the Math, placed his bundle under his head as a pillow, and went to sleep.
Marathi Meaning: जेवण करून रात्र झाल्यावर तो मठात आला आणि ते आपले साहित्याचे गाठोडे उशाशी ठेवून झोपला.
Ovi 14:- नित्य घडे ऐसेंचि त्यासी । भक्त लोक येती आराधनेसी । आराणूक नव्हे त्यासी । नित्य जेवी समाराधनीं ॥१४॥
Transliteration: nitya ghade eisenchi tyasi | bhakta loka yeti aradhanesi | aranuka navhe tyasi | nitya jevi samaraadhani || 14 ||
English Meaning: This happens every day. Devotees would come to host feasts, and he never got a turn. He kept eating at others' feasts daily.
Marathi Meaning: रोज असेच घडू लागले. कोणी ना कोणी भक्त भोजन घालत असे आणि भास्कर त्यांच्या पंक्तीत जेवत असे. त्याला स्वतःची भिक्षा घालण्याची संधीच मिळत नव्हती.
Ovi 15:- समस्त त्यास हांसती । पहा हो समाराधनेची आयती । घेऊनि आला असे भक्तीं । आपण जेवी नित्य समाराधनीं ॥१५॥
Transliteration: samasta tyasa hansati | paha ho samaraadhanenchi ayati | gheuni ala ase bhakti | apana jevi nitya samaraadhani || 15 ||
English Meaning: Everyone laughed at him, saying, "Look at his preparation for a feast! He brought ingredients out of devotion, yet he eats at others' feasts every day."
Marathi Meaning: इतर लोक त्याला हसू लागले. ते म्हणत, "बघा याची भक्ती, सामानाचे गाठोडे घेऊन आलाय पण स्वतः रोज दुसऱ्याच्या पंक्तीत जेवतोय!"
Ovi 16:- एकासी नव्हे पुरें अन्न । श्रीगुरुशिष्य बहु जन । केवीं करील हा ब्राह्मण । समाराधना करीन म्हणतो ॥१६॥
Transliteration: ekasi navhe pure anna | shrigurushishya bahu jana | kevi karila ha brahmana | samaraadhana karina mhanato || 16 ||
English Meaning: People whispered, "He doesn't even have enough food for one person, and Shri Guru has many disciples. How will this Brahmin host a feast?"
Marathi Meaning: लोक कुजबुजू लागले की, "त्याच्या गाठोड्यात एका माणसालाही पुरेसे अन्न नाही आणि हा ब्राह्मण श्रीगुरूंच्या हजारो शिष्यांना जेऊ घालण्याच्या गप्पा मारतोय!"
Ovi 17:- लाज नये त्यासी कैसी । समाराधना म्हणायासी । दे कां स्वयंपाक आम्हांसी । तूं करीं आजि माधुकरी ॥१७॥
Transliteration: laja naye tyasi kaisi | samaraadhana mhanayasi | de ka swayamapaka amhansi | tu kari aji madhukari || 17 ||
English Meaning: "How is he not ashamed to call it a feast? Give your ingredients to us and you go beg for alms today."
Marathi Meaning: "याला लाज कशी वाटत नाही? तुझे ते साहित्य आम्हाला देऊन टाक आणि तू खुशाल माधुकरी (भिक्षा) मागून खा."
Ovi 18:- ऐसें नाना प्रकारें त्यासी । विनोद करिती ब्राह्मण परियेसीं । ऐशा प्रकारें तीन मासी । क्रमिले त्या ब्राह्मणें तेथेंचि ॥१८॥
Transliteration: aise nana prakare tyasi | vinoda kariti brahmana pariyesi | aisha prakare tina masi | kramile tya brahmane tethenchi || 18 ||
English Meaning: In this way, the Brahmins mocked him in various ways. Three months passed for the Brahmin in that place.

Ovi 19:- नित्य होतसे आराधन । त्यांचे घरीं जेवी आपण । गांठोडी उशाखालीं ठेवून । निद्रा करी प्रतिदिवसीं ॥१९॥
Transliteration: nitya hotase aradhana | tyanche ghari jevi apana | gathodi ushakhali thevuna | nidra kari pratidivasi || 19 ||
English Meaning: Feasts happened daily, and he ate at their houses, sleeping every day with his bundle under his head.

Ovi 20:- मास तीन क्रमिल्यावरी । समस्त मिळोनि द्विजवरीं । परिहास करिती अपारी । श्रीगुरुमूर्तिं ऐकिलें ॥२०॥
Transliteration: masa tina kramilyavari | samasta miloni dwijavari | parihasa kariti apari | shrigurumurti aikile || 20 ||
English Meaning: After three months, when the mockery from the Brahmins became excessive, Shri Guru heard about it.

Ovi 21:- बोलाविती त्या ब्राह्मणासी । आजि भिक्षा करावी आम्हांसी । स्वयंपाक करीं वेगेंसी । म्हणती श्रीगुरु कृपासिंधु ॥२१॥
Transliteration: bolaviti tya brahmanasi | aji bhiksha karavi amhansi | swayamapaka kari vegensi | mhanati shriguru krupasindhu || 21 ||
English Meaning: The ocean of mercy, Shri Guru, called the Brahmin and said, "Offer alms to us today. Prepare the meal quickly."
Marathi Meaning: तेव्हा कृपाळू श्रीगुरूंनी भास्करला बोलावले आणि सांगितले, "आज तू आम्हाला भिक्षा दे, लवकर स्वयंपाक करायला घे."
Ovi 22:- ऐकोनि श्रीगुरुच्या बोला । संतोष अपार द्विजा झाला । चरणावरी माथा ठेविला । हर्षे गेला आइतीसी ॥२२॥
Transliteration: aikoni shriguruchya bola | santosho apara dwija jhala | charanavari matha thevila | harshe gela aitis || 22 ||
English Meaning: Hearing Shri Guru's words, the Brahmin felt immense joy. He bowed his head at the Guru's feet and went happily to prepare.

Ovi 23:- आणिलें द्वय शेर घृत । शाका दोनी त्यापुरत । स्नान करुनि शुचिर्भूत । स्वयंपाक केला तये वेळीं ॥२३॥
Transliteration: aprile dwaya shera ghruta | shaka doni tyapurata | snana karuni shuchirbhuta | swayamapaka kela taye veli || 23 ||
English Meaning: He brought two seers (units) of ghee and prepared two types of vegetables. After a purifying bath, he cooked the meal.
Marathi Meaning: त्याने दोन शेर तूप आणि दोन प्रकारच्या भाज्या तयार केल्या. स्नान करून त्याने शुद्ध मनाने स्वयंपाक पूर्ण केला.
Ovi 24:- समस्त ब्राह्मण तये वेळीं । मिळोन आले श्रीगुरुजवळी । म्हणती आजि आमुची पाळी । यावनाळ-अन्न घरीं ॥२४॥
Transliteration: samasta brahmana taye veli | milona ale shrigurujavali | mhanati aji amuchi pali | yavanala-anna ghari || 24 ||
English Meaning: At that time, all the other Brahmins came to Shri Guru and said, "Today is our turn. We have prepared sorghum (Jowar) food at home."
Marathi Meaning: त्याच वेळी इतर काही ब्राह्मण श्रीगुरूकडे आले आणि म्हणाले, "आज आमच्याकडे जेवणाची तयारी झाली आहे, आज आमची पाळी आहे."
Ovi 25:- नित्य होतें समाराधन । आम्ही जेवितों मिष्ठान्न । कैंचा हा आला ब्राह्मण । आजि राहिली समाराधना ॥२५॥
Transliteration: nitya hote samaraadhana | amhi jevito mishtanna | kaincha ha ala brahmana | aji rahili samaraadhana || 25 ||
English Meaning: "Feasts happen daily and we eat sweets. Where did this Brahmin come from? Our feast is ruined today."
Marathi Meaning: ते वैतागून म्हणाले, "हा कुठून गरीब ब्राह्मण मध्येच आला? आज आमची मोठी समाराधना रद्द झाली."
Ovi 26:- श्रीगुरु म्हणती द्विजांसी । नका जाऊं घरांसी । शीघ्र जावें आंघोळीसी । येथेंचि जेवा तुम्ही आजि ॥२६॥
Transliteration: shriguru mhanati dwijansi | naka jau gharansi | shighra jave angholisi | yethenchi jeva tumhi aji || 26 ||
English Meaning: Shri Guru said to the Brahmins, "Don't go home. Go quickly for a bath and eat right here today."
Marathi Meaning: श्रीगुरु त्या ब्राह्मणांना म्हणाले, "तुम्ही घरी जाऊ नका. लवकर स्नान उरकून या, आज तुम्ही इथेच जेवा."
Ovi 27:- ब्राह्मण मनीं विचारिती । मठीं असे सामग्री आयती । स्वयंपाक आतां करविती । आम्हांसी निरोपिती याचिगुणें ॥२७॥
Transliteration: brahmana mani vichariti | mathi ase samagri ayati | swayamapaka ata karaviti | amhansi niropiti yachigune || 27 ||
English Meaning: The Brahmins thought, "There must be plenty of provisions in the Math. That's why he is asking us to stay and eat."
Marathi Meaning: ब्राह्मणांना वाटले की मठात भरपूर साहित्य असेल, म्हणून श्रीगुरु आपल्याला इथे जेवायला सांगत आहेत.
Ovi 28:- समस्त गेले स्नानासी । श्रीगुरु बोलाविती त्या ब्राह्मणासी । शीघ्र करीं गा होईल निशी । ब्राह्मण अपार सांगितले ॥२८॥
Transliteration: samasta gele snanasi | shriguru bolaviti tya brahmanasi | shighra kari ga hoila nishi | brahmana apara sangitale || 28 ||
English Meaning: Everyone went for a bath. Shri Guru called Bhaskar and said, "Hurry up, it will be night soon. I have invited many Brahmins."
Marathi Meaning: सर्वजण स्नानाला गेले. श्रीगुरूंनी भास्करला सांगितले की, "अनेकांना जेवणाचे निमंत्रण दिले आहे, तू लवकर तयारी कर."
Ovi 29:- स्वयंपाक झाला तत्क्षण । सांगतसे श्रीगुरुसी ब्राह्मण । निरोप देती जा धांवोन । ब्राह्मण समस्त पाचारीं ॥२९॥
Transliteration: swayamapaka jhala tatkshana | sangatase shrigurusi brahmana | niropa deti ja dhavona | brahmana samasta pachari || 29 ||
English Meaning: The cooking was finished instantly. The Brahmin informed Shri Guru, who then told him, "Run and call all the Brahmins."
Marathi Meaning: स्वयंपाक तयार झाल्यावर भास्करने श्रीगुरूंना सांगितले. श्रीगुरूंनी त्याला सर्व ब्राह्मणांना बोलावून आणण्यास सांगितले.
Ovi 30:- ब्राह्मण गेला गंगेसी । बोलावीतसे ब्राह्मणांसी । स्वामीनें बोलाविलें तुम्हांसी । शीघ्र यावें म्हणोनियां ॥३०॥
Transliteration: brahmana gela gangesi | bolavitase brahmanansi | swamine bolavile tumhansi | shighra yave mhanoniya || 30 ||
English Meaning: The Brahmin went to the Ganges and called the others, "The Master has called you. Come quickly."
Marathi Meaning: भास्कर गंगेकाठी गेला आणि सर्वांना म्हणाला, "स्वामींनी तुम्हाला बोलावले आहे, जेवायला लवकर चला."
Ovi 31:- ब्राह्मण म्हणती तयासी । स्वयंपाक व्हावया होईल निशी । तुवां शीघ्र श्रीगुरुसी । भिक्षा करावी जाय वेगीं ॥३१॥
Transliteration: brahmana mhanati tayasi | swayamapaka vhavaya hoila nishi | tuva shighra shrigurusi | bhiksha karavi jaya vegi || 31 ||
English Meaning: The people mocked him, "By the time your food is served, it will be late at night. You go quickly and serve alms to Shri Guru first."
Marathi Meaning: लोक हसून म्हणाले, "तुझ्या थोड्याशा अन्नाने आमची जेवणे कशी होणार? तू आधी स्वामींना जेऊ घाल."
Ovi 32:- ऐसोनि तो ब्राह्मण । गेला श्रीगुरुजवळी आपण । ब्राह्मण न येती ऐसें म्हणे । आपण जेवूं अपरात्रीं ॥३२॥
Transliteration: aisoni to brahmana | gela shrigurujavali apana | brahmana na yeti aise mhane | apana jevu aparatari || 32 ||
English Meaning: Hearing this, the Brahmin returned to Shri Guru and said, "The Brahmins are not coming. They say they will eat late at night."
Marathi Meaning: भास्कर परत आला आणि श्रीगुरूंना म्हणाला, "कोणीही ब्राह्मण यायला तयार नाही, ते म्हणतात आम्ही नंतर जेवू."
Ovi 33:- श्रीगुरु म्हणती तयासी । नेम असे आजि आम्हांसी । सहपंक्तीनें ब्राह्मणांसी । जेवूं आम्ही निर्धारीं ॥३३॥
Transliteration: shriguru mhanati tayasi | nema ase aji amhansi | sahapanktine brahmanansi | jevu amhi nirdhari || 33 ||
English Meaning: Shri Guru said to him, "I have a rule today. I have decided to eat in the same row with all the Brahmins."

Ovi 34:- ब्राह्मणांसहित आम्हांसी । जेवूं वाढीं गा तूं परियेसीं । जरी अंगीकार न करिसी । न जेवूं तुझे घरीं आम्ही ॥३४॥
Transliteration: brahmanasahita amhansi | jevu vadhi ga tu pariyesi | jari angikara na karisi | na jevu tujhe ghari amhi || 34 ||
English Meaning: "You must serve us along with all the Brahmins. If you don't agree, I will not eat at your place."
Marathi Meaning: "तू सर्वांना वाढले पाहिजेस, जर तू तसे केले नाहीस, तर आम्ही तुझे जेवण स्वीकारणार नाही."
Ovi 35:- ब्राह्मण म्हणे श्रीगुरुसी । जो निरोप द्याल आपणासी । तोचि निरोप माझे शिरसीं । ब्राह्मणांसहित जेवूं वाढीन ॥३५॥
